Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of topical antimicrobial mouthrinse versus systemic antibiotic prophylaxis during the perioperative period of mandibular impacted third molar extraction, and to explore new strategies for clinical medication during the perioperative period of tooth extraction. Methods A total of 100 healthy adults undergoing surgical extraction of mandibular impacted third molars were included and randomly divided into experimental group(perioperative topical antimicrobial mouthrinse)and control group(perioperative systemic antibiotics).Parameters including pain, swelling, trismus, oral hygiene status, and surgical complications were recorded on postoperative days 1,3,and 7.Results There were no statistically significant differences in the degrees of pain, swelling, and trismus between the experimental group and the control group on postoperative days 1,3,and 7(all P>0.05).Neither group exhibited complications such as postoperative infection or nerve injury. Conclusion Under the premise of minimally invasive tooth extraction, topical antimicrobial mouthrinse demonstrates comparable clinical efficacy to systemic antibiotic prophylaxis and may serve as a safe and effective alternative regimen.
