Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between thickening of maxillary sinus mucosa by cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT)and periapical lesions in posterior maxillary tooth area. Methods A total of 120 patients undergoing CBCT in The First Hospital of Jiaxing were enrolled from April 2024 to April 2025.According to presence or absence of periapical lesions in posterior maxillary tooth area, they were divided into periapical lesion group and normal group. The thickness and thickening of maxillary sinus mucosa in the two groups were compared, and the relationship between periodontal indexes and thickening of maxillary sinus mucosa in periapical lesion group was analyzed. Results The thickness of maxillary sinus mucosa in periapical lesion group was higher than that in normal group(P<0.001),the proportion of thickening of maxillary sinus mucosa in periapical lesion group was higher than that in normal group(64.89%vs 27.83%,P<0.001),and thickening degree of maxillary sinus mucosa in periapical lesion group was greater than that in normal group(P=0.001).There was no significant difference in thickening types of maxillary sinus mucosa between the two groups. There was no significant difference in thickening degree among patients with different sites of maxillary sinus floor, but there were significant differences among patients with different periapical lesion diameters(P=0.002).There was no significant difference in thickening types among patients with different sites of maxillary sinus floor and lesion diameters. Conclusion There is a correlation between periapical lesions in posterior maxillary tooth area and thickening of maxillary sinus mucosa.Early intervention of periapical lesions is of great value in the prevention of maxillary sinus diseases.
