Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of traditional Chinese medicine fasting therapy on glucose and lipid metabolism and visceral fat area(VFA)in overweight/obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),and to provide a safe, effective and sustainable weight loss plan for the clinical treatment of overweight/obese PCOS patients. Methods Sixty patients diagnosed with overweight/obese PCOS in the Department of Gynecology,Wenzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from January 2021 to December 2023 were selected and divided into 2 groups according to random number table method.Thirty patients in the control group were treated with oral metformin, while 30 patients in the experimental group were treated with traditional Chinese medicine fasting therapy.Body mass index(BMI),waist-to-hip ratio(WHR),VFA,oral glucose tolerance test, insulin release test, and blood lipid were used as observation indicators for comparison. Results Before treatment, there were no statistically significant differences in BMI,WHR,VFA,lipid metabolism indicators, blood glucose levels, and insulin levels between the two groups. After treatment, the WHR was smaller and the VFA was lower in the experimental group, indicating that the body mass and visceral fat content of patients in the experimental group were lower, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the lipid metabolism indicators such as total cholesterol and triglyceride in the experimental group were better, indicating that the lipid metabolism of the experimental group was improved, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the blood glucose levels in the experimental group was lower on an empty stomach,60 min,120 min and 180 min after treatment, indicating that the blood glucose management of the experimental group was more effective, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the insulin levels in the experimental group were better at 60,120,and 180 min after treatment, indicating that the insufficient insulin secretion and insulin resistance in the experimental group were improved, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine fasting therapy can improve glucose and lipid metabolism and reduce VFA in overweight/obese PCOS patients.
