Abstract:Objective To compare the binocular visual function difference between the high school students with small degree intermittent exotropia and the normal students in medical selection of air force flight cadets, analyze the visual function characteristics of small degree intermittent exotropia, and explore the direction of revision of the relevant criteria for the medical selection of air force flight cadets. Methods Eighty-four students with small degree intermittent exotropia(exotropia group)and fifty-nine normal controls(normal group)were collected in medical selection of air force flight cadets in 2022.Their far visual acuity in both eyes was not less than 0.8(Landolt C eye chart),and their diopter was from-0.50 D to+1.00 D.The tertiary visual function, degree of exophoria, and accommodation convergence/accommodation(AC/A)ratio of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results The subjective and objective exotropia of exotropia group was(-0.86±3.59)° and(-0.93±3.14)°,respectively,which was significantly negative compared with the normal group[subjective exotropia:(1.82±3.55)° and objective exotropia:(1.69±3.77)°](P<0.01).The collective fusion of exotropia group was significantly lower than that of normal group[(12.70±7.61)° vs(17.50±6.49)°,P<0.01],while diffuse fusion showed no significant differences[exotropia group(-5.09±0.39)° vs normal group(-4.88±1.87)°,P>0.05].The qualitative examination of distance stereoacuity showed that all the students in the study were normal. The near stereoacuity in exotropia group was significantly lower than that in control group[(36.85±19.99)"vs(27.46±11.04)",P<0.01].The distance exophoria[(-2.13±4.38)cm/m]and near exophoria[(-11.03±6.45)cm/m]in exotropia group were significantly lower than those in normal group[distance exophoria:(-0.57±3.46)cm/m;near exophoria:(-4.67±6.14)cm/m,P<0.05].Compared with the normal group, the AC/A ratio was significantly lower in the exotropia group, with statistical significance[(1.28±1.27)vs(2.20±1.26),P<0.05].Conclusion The changes of visual functions in students with small degree intermittent exotropia are mainly characterized by outward shift of coincidence points, reduction of collective fusion and accommodative convergence function, but less damage of stereopsis.
