Abstract:Leucine, isoleucine, and valine are essential amino acids in the body, collectively known as branched-chain amino acids(BCAA)due to their branched side chain structures.BCAA play a critical role not only in protein synthesis but also as bioactive molecules participating extensively in various intracellular biological processes.Studies have shown that BCAA metabolic disturbances play a crucial role in a variety of cardiometabolic diseases, including obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and heart failure. This review introduces the metabolic processes of BCAA in detail, with an emphasis on summarizing how BCAA metabolic disturbances lead to the occurrence and development of cardiometabolic diseases, and explores the close relationship between BCAA metabolism and cardiometabolic health based on epidemiological evidence.Furthermore, this review also prospects future research directions, aiming to provide new perspectives for a deeper understanding of the role and mechanism of BCAA in cardiometabolic diseases.
