Superiority of acupoint catgut embedding therapy for obesity

Abstract：Obesity has been a major medical problem that does serious harm to the human health. It is a pathogenic factor or risk factor for various chronic diseases. The acupoint catgut embedding therapy has been widely used for treating obesity, and many clinical researches have showed that it is effective evidently. This article made a discussion on the advantages of the therapy in aspects of clinical effect, time-economic costs and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory. By the systematic evaluation, we found that it is more effective than other kinds of TCM therapies. The treatment frequency is usually once a week, which is less than common acupuncture times. What's more, it reduces time and economic expenses. The reaction between acupoint and catgut can last 3-5 d, which is in line with TCM classical theory that is to treat obesity with deep stabing and long-time retaining.
