Abstract:Periosteal osteosarcoma is a moderately malignant chondroblastic osteosarcoma originating from the surface connec-tive tissue or periosteum of bone, also referred to as parosteal chondroblastic osteosarcoma. It is clinically rare and seldom occurs in the jaw. This article reports a case of pathologically confirmed periosteal osteosarcoma of the mandible.CT revealed a soft tis-sue nodule adjacent to the right side of the mandibular body with inhomogeneous rim enhancement on post-contrast images, while the adjacent mandibular bone showed no osseous destruction. On MRI,the lesion exhibited low signal intensity on T1-weighted images and high signal intensity on T2-weighted images. No abnormal signal intensity was observed within the adjacent mandibular medullary cavity.18F-FDG PET/CT imaging demonstrated high metabolic activity in the solid components of the tu-mor.These imaging findings are of significance for improving the understanding of this disease.
