The ultrasound features of pseudomyxoma peritoneum

Abstract：Objective To explore the ultrasound features of pseudomyxoma peritoneum(PMP).Methods We selected 55 cases of peritoneal pseudomyxoma confirmed by pathological examination,and analyzed their clinical,pathological,and ultra-sound manifestations.Results Among the 55 cases,there were 17 cases of malignant primary tumors and 38 cases of benign primary tumors.A fluid dark area in the abdominal cavity was detected by ultrasound,which was shown diffuse distribution or lo-calized wrapping.Many strong vocal cords were visible inside,appearing as grid like,dense point like,or clustered echoes,and no intestinal tube floating was observed.Among them,59 mucinous masses with diameters ranging from 2.3 cm to 31.0 cm were detected in the abdomen and pelvic cavity of 36 cases.Mucinous ascites and cystic masses were shown low echogenicity,and Color Doppler Flow Imaging(CDFI)showed abundant blood supply in the parenchymal part of the masses.32 cases had a large amount of mucinous ascites,23 cases had a small amount of mucinous ascites,27 cases had extensive thickening of the perito-neum,28 cases had reticular septa in the mucus,35 cases had a"cake shaped"omentum,31 cases had honeycomb septa in the cystic mass,27 cases had"scallop like"imprints on the edges of the liver,spleen,and pancreas,and 5 cases had retroperito-neal lymph node enlargement.Conclusion PMP mucinous ascites is extensive,with US showing multiple honeycomb or solid mucinous masses in the abdominal cavity,poor acoustic transmission within,and thickening of the omentum in cord-like,clump-like,or pancake-like patterns.The surrounding parenchymal organs exhibit serrated or"scallop-like"depressions at the edges as characteristic features.
