The correlation between peripheral cardiac fat thickness and left atrial sphericity index evaluated by echocardiography and the severity of heart failure

Abstract：Objective To explore the correlation between the thickness of peripheral cardiac fat thickness and left atrial sphericity index(LASI)and the severity of heart failure(HF).Methods 127 HF patients were selected(the HF group)and di-vided into HFrEF group(44 cases),HFmrEF group(39 cases),and HFpEF group(44 cases)based on LVEF;37 healthy indi-viduals were selected as the control group.Echocardiography was performed to measure the thickness of the right ventricular ante-rior EAT,right ventricular anterior PAT,atrioventricular groove EAT,the left atrial antero-posterior diameter and superior-inferior diameter,and calculate LASI.The clinical data and echocardiographic results of each group were compared,and Spear-man correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between the severity of HF and the thickness of peripheral cardiac fat and LASI in HF patients.Results The thickness of right ventricular anterior EAT,right ventricular anterior PAT,and atrio-ventricular groove EAT in the HFrEF group was smaller than that in the HFmrEF group,HFpEF group,and control group(P<0.01),while there was no statistically significant difference among the HFmrEF group,HFpEF group,and control group(P>0.05).The LASI of the HFrEF group and the HFmrEF group was larger than that of the HFpEF group and the control group(P<0.05),while there was no statistically significant difference between the HFrEF group and the HFmrEF group,or between the HFpEF group and the control group(P>0.05).The LVEF of HF patients was positively correlated with the thickness of right ventricular anterior EAT,right ventricular anterior PAT,and atrioventricular groove EAT,and negatively correlated with LASI(P<0.01).Conclusion In HF patients,the lower of LVEF,the smaller of the thickness of right ventricular anterior EAT,right ventricular anterior PAT,and atrioventricular groove EAT,while,the larger of LASI.Different severity of HF is correlated with the thickness of peripheral cardiac fat and LASI.
