Abstract:Objective To improve the diagnostic accuracy of single inflammatory nodules and avoid unnecessary surgery. Methods Retrospective analysis of HRCT features in 51 patients with solitary inflammatory pulmonary nodules that resolved fol-lowing surgical and medical treatment was conducted. Results Of the 51 cases in this group,36 were located in the right lung, including 7 cases in the upper lobe,6 cases in the middle lobe, and 23 cases in the lower lobe;the remaining 15 cases were lo-cated in the left lung, including 7 cases in the upper lobe,8 cases in the lower lobe. There were 3 cases with a size≤10 mm,4 cases with a size 10 to≤20 mm,and 44 cases with a size>20 mm.There were 46 cases of pure ground-glass nodules and 5 cases of partially ground-glass nodules. The morphology showed round or oval shape in 5 cases, irregular shape in 18 cases, patchy shape in 26 cases, and multinodular fusion in 2 cases. The edge of the lesion was clear in 5 cases and blurred in 46 cases.Patent bronchi with a natural course was identified within the lesions in 48 cases, while, mild bronchial dilation was noted in 3 cases.Adjacent pleural thickening was present in 19 cases, with inflammation adhering to the pleura and forming knife-cut mar-gins in 13 cases.Thickening of perinodular bronchial walls was observed in 47 cases, accompanied by surrounding alveolar in-flammatory changes in 17 cases. Both features,i.e.,bronchial wall thickening and alveolar inflammation, coexisted in 13 cases.Following anti-inflammatory treatment, lesion size reduction or complete resolution occurred in 48 cases, while,no significant changes were observed during follow-up in 3 cases. Conclusion According to the analysis of the cases in this group, the mor-phology of ground-glass nodules is irregular and patchy, with blurred edges, and the internal bronchial obstruction is naturally in-flammatory nodules.Thickening of the bronchial wall around the nodule and inflammation of the surrounding alveoli can also be used as a basis for the diagnosis of inflammatory nodules.
