Abstract:Objective To analyze the feasibility of long implants for auricular prosthesis reconstruction based on cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT)data of adult temporal bones. Methods A total of 100 oral outpatient patients with normal tem-poral morphology and development were selected and underwent CBCT examination of the temporal bone.Using digital medical imaging software, the thickness of the temporal bone at 12,3,and 5 o'clock positions around the ear was measured, and the av-erage value was calculated.Under the guidance of a 3D-printed guide,a 6 mm long implant was inserted into the temporal bone model. The accuracy, stability of the implant insertion direction, and the remaining bone thickness of the deep temporal bone were observed. Results The thickness of the temporal bone at 12,3,and 5 o'clock positions around the ear was(7.18±0.75)mm,(15.52±2.49)mm,and(16.78±2.62)mm,respectively.Among them, the thickness of the temporal bone at 12,3,and 5 o'clock positions around the external auditory canal was greater than 8 mm in 14 cases, greater than 6 mm in 83 cases, and less than or equal to 6 mm in 3 cases. After inserting the 6 mm long implant into the temporal bone model,it had good stability, precise insertion direction, and the remaining bone thickness of the deep temporal bone was greater than 1 mm.Conclusion The temporal bone thickness around the external auditory canal at the 12,3,and 5 o'clock positions is mostly greater than 6 mm,indicating that the use of implants≥6 mm for auricular prosthesis reconstruction is clinically feasible.
