Abstract:Objective To explore the effectiveness and safety of CT-guided puncture injection of polyglycolic acid for sclero-therapy in simple cysts. Methods One hundred and twenty patients with cysts were selected,60 of whom were treated with CT-guided puncture injection of anhydrous ethanol for sclerotherapy, and 60 of whom were treated with CT-guided puncture injection of polyglycolic acid for sclerotherapy. The clinical efficacy, volume reduction degree, and postoperative adverse reactions after puncture were compared between the two groups. Results A one-year follow-up CT review showed that the overall treatment ef-ficacy rate was 95%in the group treated with CT-guided puncture injection of polyglycolic acid for sclerotherapy, while, the over-all treatment efficacy rate was 90%in the group treated with anhydrous ethanol, and there was no statistically significant differ-ence between the two groups(P>0.05);however,calculation of volume reduction rate before and after sclerotherapy under CT guidance at 3,6 month, and 1 year revealed that the volume reduction ratio of the group treated with polyglycolic acid was sig-nificantly higher than that of the ethanol group(P<0.05);in addition, the incidence of adverse reactions including fever,ab-dominal distension and pain, dizziness and nausea, and allergic reactions in the group treated with CT-guided puncture injection of polyglycolic acid was 5%,which was significantly lower than that in the group treated with CT-guided puncture injection of an-hydrous ethanol(25%)(P<0.05).Conclusion CT-guided puncture injection of polyglycolic acid for sclerotherapy is effective for simple cysts, but compared to anhydrous ethanol, the volume reduction ratio of cysts treated with polyglycolic acid alone is higher, the postoperative adverse reactions are lower, and the safety is higher.
