Abstract:Objective To evaluate the role of cone-beam computed tomography(CT)performed for the determination of the artery of Adamkiewicz(AKA)during bronchial artery embolization(BAE)for hemoptysis. Methods In this retrospective study, patients with hemoptysis underwent emergent BAE.During the angiographic session,31 arteries in 28 patients were se-lected as the possible AKA by two interventional radiologists and underwent cone-beam CT for the determination AKA.Results Four cone-beam CT acquisitions in 3 patients were excluded because of poor image quality caused by inadequate breath holding.Therefore,27 successful cone-beam CT acquisitions of 25 patients were included and reviewed. As a result,15 study arteries were judged as definitely AKA,9 study arteries were judged as definitely not AKA but the musculocutaneous branches,3 study arteries in which cone-beam CT did not allow for the determination of the AKA.Conclusions Intraprocedural cone-beam CT is useful for the determination of the AKA during BAE for hemoptysis.
