Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)and mood disor-ders in school-age children with adenoid hypertrophy based on lateral nasopharyngeal radiography and nasal endoscopy.Meth-ods 196 children with complete clinical data diagnosed and treated in the ENT department of our hospital were selected.Among them, the observation group consisted of 124 children diagnosed with adenoid hypertrophy through nasopharyngeal lateral radio-graphs and nasal endoscopy, who met the diagnostic criteria for OSAHS through polysomnography(PSG)monitoring; The con-trol group consisted of 72 children who were confirmed to have no adenoid hypertrophy through nasopharyngeal lateral radio-graphs and nasal endoscopy, and had no sleep disorders monitored by PSG.We compared the anxiety and depression scores be-tween two groups and studied the correlation between anxiety and depression scores as well as AI and AHI indices within the ob-servation group. Results The proportion of children with anxiety in the observation group was 27.4%,which was significantly higher than 12.5%in the control group. The proportion of children with depressive symptoms was 30.6%,which was significantly higher than 15.3%in the control group(P<0.05).At the same time, the scores of anxiety and depression in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Correlation studies showed that anxiety and depression scores of children were linearly correlated with AI and AHI index. Conclusions OSAHS caused by adenoid hypertrophy can in-crease the level of anxiety and depression in school-age children.Special attention should be paid to whether OSAHS caused by adenoid hypertrophy leads to psychological and behavioral abnormalities in children.Early detection, diagnosis and treatment should be carried out.
