Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between the rate of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and risk of sudden cardiac death in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients. Methods 45 HCM patients and 20 normal volunteers underwent cardiac cine MRI and late gadolinium enhancement. Then, we calculated their rate of LGE and analyzed the difference between the two groups of data; The HCM Risk-SCD was used to calculate the 5 year SCD risk score of HCM patients, and to analyze the correlation between LGE rate and 5-year SCD risk score. Results The LGE rate of HCM patients was significantly higher than that of normal controls (P<0.001). The LGE rate of HCM patients was positively correlated with the 5-year SCD risk score (P<0.0001). Conclusion LGE rate is positively correlated with SCD risk in HCM, and can be used as a quantitative index to evaluate the SCD risk in HCM patients.
