Abstract:Objective To evaluate the vlalue of ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (US-FNAB) in the diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules. Methods The clinical data of 83 patients with benign and malignant thyroid nodules (113 nodules) examined by US-FNAB were analyzed and processed. Results The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of US-FNAB in the diagnosis of thyroid malignant nodules were 93.94% (62/66), 87.23% (41/47) and 91.15% (103/113); the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of US-FNAB in the diagnosis of thyroid malignant nodules <10 cm were 94.12% (48/51), 89.47% (34/38), 92.13% (82/89); and the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of US-FNAB in the diagnosis of thyroid malignant nodules (>1.0 cm) were 94.12% (48/51), 89.47% (34/38). The specificity and accuracy were 93.33% (14/15), 77.78% (7/9) and 87.50% (21/24). There was no significant difference in diagnostic value between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion US-FNAB is simple, convenient, inexpensive and accurate in the diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules.
