Abstract:Objective To study the characteristic of 1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy (~1H-MRS) on hippocampus in patients with postpartum depression (PPD). Methods 63 patients with PPD and 30 volunteers were scanned on a 1.5 T magnetic resonance scanner. The region of interest was placed on the hippocampus bilaterally, and the value of NAA/Cr, Cho/Cr was counted. Results The bilateral hippocampus NAA/Cr ratio was lower in moderate and severe PPD group compared with healthy control subjects and mild PPD group respectively (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference on Cho/Cr ratio between the normal group, the mild PPD group and the moderate and severe PPD group (P>0.05). Conclusion The change of NAA level in hippocampus is closely related to the occurrence of postpartum depression.
