Abstract:Objective To investigate the value of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) in the diagnosis of acute cerebral infarction and its value in differential diagnosis between acute and non acute cerebral infarction. Methods A retrospective analysis of 25 patients with acute cerebral infarction was conducted. All patients were followed by CT scan, followed by routine MRI and DWI examinations. Results There were 4 cases of hyperacute cerebral infarction with CT negativity,no obvious abnormality in conventional MRI sequence. DWI showed different degrees of high signal. 21 cases were acute cerebral infarction, only 2 cases of CT showed new lesions,9 cases of conventional MRI (T2WI) showed new lesions, and DWI was significantly better than conventional sequence. Conclusion DWI has high specificity and sensitivity for hyperacute and acute cerebral infarction. It can accurately and reliably display the location and range of the lesion, and can distinguish the old and new infarction.
