Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between carotid plaque neovascularization and carotid plaque hardness. Methods 85 consecutive patients with carotid plaques were enrolled in this study. 109 plaques were detected by contrast en-hanced ultrasound and shear wave elastography, and the Young 's modulus was recorded according to the grade of contrast-en-hanced ultrasound. Results The higher the intensity of contrast-enhanced ultrasound, the lower the Young's modulus. There was significant difference in Young's modulus among the four grades ( P <0. 05). There was a negative correlation among the four grades of enhanced ultrasound contrast and Young's modulus (rho<0, P <0. 05), and the degree of correlation was moderate (rho=-0. 61). Conclusion The more the neovascularization in carotid plaques, the softer of the plaquesis.
