Abstract:Objective To analyze the MRI findings of AIDS complicated with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in order to improve diagnostic accuracy. Methods 37 cases of the AIDS complicated with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopa-thy proved by clinic were reviewed. All cases were performed with MRI scans, and 20 cases were performed with pre and post contrast MRI scans. Results In AIDS patients with focal brain dysfunction, the lesions were located in the parietal lobe, occipi-tal, frontal white gray matter junction. Lesions were often multifocal. Integration and increasing trend, asymmetrical distribution, showed long T1 , T2 signal, no obvious signs of occupying and edema, most of the lesions were not enhanced, only a few white gray matter junction lesions were slightly enhanced. Conclusion AIDS complicated with progressive multifocal leukoencephalop-athy has characteristic MRI findings. Combined with the characteristics of the patients in the clinical history, neurologic symptoms and signs, lesion location, and laboratory examination can further improve the accuracy of diagnosis.
