Abstract:Objective To analyze the characteristic of imaging, clinical manifestation and histopathological type of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome complicated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods 12 cases of AIDS complicated with nasopha-ryngeal carcinoma were examined with CT or/and MRI scan,CD4 +cell count detection were performed in all cases. The imaging, clinical and pathological data of all cases were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among the 12 patients enrolled in the study,9 cases were the undifferentiated non-keratinizing carcinoma and 3 cases were poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. The primary lesions which occured in lateral wall and top-posterior wall were 11 cases, and 5 cases were bilaterally involved. There were also 4 cases which located at recessus pharyngeus and 2 cases were bilaterally involved. 8 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma had invaded the adjacent structures,10 cases were found cervical lymph node metastasis. All of the patients in the CD4 +cell count less than 200 /μl were 7 cases, less than 100 /μl were 3 cases. Conclusion The primary lesions of AIDS complicated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma which mainly occured in lateral wall and top-posterior wall. Timely, accurate discrimination to the reasons of the enlarged cervical lymph nodes plays an important role in the diagonosis and treatment of AIDS complicated with na-sopharyngeal carcinoma.
