Abstract:Objective To investigate CT and MRI findings of adult congenital cholesteatoma of temporal bone. Methods We conducted a retrospective review of clinical, CT and MRI records of 4 patients with adult congenital cholesteatoma of temporal bone treated from February 2001 to July 2015.The records had been approved by pathologic diagnosis. Results Among the 4 ca-ses of adult congenital cholesteatoma of temporal bone, simple high-resolution CT plain scan performed in two cases,high-resolu-tion CT and MRI plain scan performed in two cases, and MRI enhancement scan performed in two cases. In 2 cases, the lesion is located in the tympanic cavity. The plain CT scan of the lesion shows oval soft tissue density image. In 2 cases, the lesion in-volves the tympanic cavity, tympanic antrum and the mastoid process. The plain CT scan of the lesion shows sheet soft tissue den-sity image in the tympanic cavity, tympanic antrum and the mastoid process.Besides, the petrous bone around swell is damaged. In 2 cases, the ossicular.the semicircular canal.the tympanic segment and labyrinthine segment of the aquaeductus fallopii are damaged due to a erosive process. In one case, the acoustic labyrinth, vestibule, internal auditory canal and the anterior wall of the sinuses sigmoideus are damaged. The MRI scan shows abnormal sheet signals that T 1is short while T2is long located in the tympanic cavity, tympanic antrum and the mastoid process. The petrous bone around swell is damaged.DWI shows circular high signal area. Conclusion CT and MRI findings of adult congenital cholesteatoma of temporal bone show certain image features. Combined with clinical history, misdiagnosis can be reduced before surgery.
