Abstract:Objective To explore the DWI characteristics and the pathological basis of parasellar cavernous hemangioma. Methods The DWI and pathological manifestations of 17 cases with parasellar cavernous hemangiom confirmed by surgery and pathology were analyzed retrospectively. The apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)value of the tumors and contralateral normal brain parenchyma were measured and compared with each other. Results DWI showed isointensity(n=15)or a little hypoin-tensity(n=2).The average ADC value of the 17 tumors(1.61×10-3mm2/s)was significently higher than that of the contralat-eral normal parenchyma(0.90×10-3mm2/s)(t =11.01,P <0.001).A large number of expansive vessel components were seen on pathological section in all cases. Conclusion The MRI features of parasellar cavernous hemangiom are closely correlated with rich blood vessels. The ADC value of the tumor is higher than that of the contralateral parenchyma, and DWI shows isointen-sity or a little hypointensity, which is helpful for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis.
