Assessment of left atrial function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using real time three-dimensional echocardiography

Abstract：Objective To assess left atrial function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using real-time three dimensional echocardiography (RT-3 DE).Methods A total of 50 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 35 healthy individuals were selected and divided into 2 diabetes mellitus group (n =50) and control group (n =35).LAVImax,LAVImin,LAVIpre,LAVia,LAVIt were compared between the two groups.Results LAVtmax,LAVIpre,LAVImin,LAVIt,LAVIa in 2 diabetes mellitus group were higher than those in control group,LAVIp in 2 diabetes mellitus group was lower than that in control group,the differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05 or P ＜ 0.01).Conclusion LAVI derived from RT-3DE may be used as sensitive parameter to detect subclinical left atrial function in patients with diabetes mellitus.
