Differential diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma and nodular goier using MSCT

Abstract：Objective To evaluate multi-slice computed tomography ( MSCT) ' s effectiveness on discriminating nodular goiter ( NG) and thyroid carcinoma ( TC) .Methods A total of thirty-five NG cases and sixteen TC cases , confirmed by histopatholo-gy, were recruited retrospectively .General information and MSCT data of each case were collected .Imaging characteristic differ-ences between NG group and TC group were compared and analyzed by using statistical software package .Results Statistically significant differences on number of lesions , boundary after enhancement , tiny calcification , cystic change and envelope complete-ness were demonstrated between two groups ( P <0.05), while lesion calcification, CT value after enhancement failed to present statistically significant difference between two groups ( P >0.05).Conclusion Imaging performance of NG and TC on MSCT had its respective characteristic features , which could play an important role in differential diagnosis for both .
