Abstract:Objective To study the localization value of 3.0 T magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( 1 H-MRS) in children with temporal lobe epilepsy ( TLE) .Methods Conventional magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI) and 1 H-MRS were performed in 28 patients with TLE and 22 healthy volunteers .The NAA/Cr, NAA/Cho, NAA/( Cho+Cr) of hippocampus were calculated re-spectively and compared among the lesion group ,contralateral groop and control group .Results 11 out of 28 cases were found hippocampal volume loss , in 5 cases, the signal intensity of the hippocampus in the ipsilateral side of the lesion in FLAIR imaging was higher than the contralateral side .There was no statistically significant difference in NAA/Cr, NAA/Cho, NAA/(Cho+Cr) in the control subjects ( P >0.05).The NAA/Cr, NAA/Cho, NAA/(Cho+Cr) of the hippocampus in the ipsilateral side were 1.37, 1.16 and 0.64, lower than that in other groups ( P <0.05), but there was no statistically significant difference between the contralateral side and the control group ( P >0.05).Conclusion 1H-MRS can quantify biochemical metabolic disorders of TLE, which plays an important role in locating diagnosis of TLE in children .
