Abstract:Objective To observe the dynamic changes in MR-DWI ADC values of parotid and submandibular gland before and after acid stimulation, and to further explore the feasibility of MR-DWI in salivary gland function evaluation. Methods A to-tal of 10 healthy volunteers in Fujian provincial tumor hospital between July and August 2011 were recruited, MR-DWI scanning was done at different time periods before and after acid stimulation for each patient, then the ADC values of salivary glands were recorded. The changes of MR-DWI ADC value of parotid and submandibular gland before and after acid stimulation were ana-lyzed. Results In 10 patients, the ADC value of parotid gland and submandibular gland in resting state was (0. 95 ± 0. 06) × 10-3 mm2/s and (1. 20 ± 0. 10) × 10-3 mm2/s, respectively. The ADC value of salivary gland was increased in first 3 minutes after acid stimulation, then decreased at 6th minute, and then increased gradually to the peak level at 15th~21st minutes, and then gradually declined to resting levels. Conclusion MR-DWI can noninvasively evaluate the dynamic physiologic changes of salivar-y glands before and after acid stimulation.
