Abstract:Objective To study functional and structural brain changes in ADHD children using diffusion tensor imaging. Methods A group of ten children diagnosed with ADHD aged 6~16 years and 10 matched healthy controls were recruited for diffusion tensor imaging. From MRI data, parametric maps (FA, mADC) were computed in standard toolkits, and group comparisons were performed in SPM8 using a voxel-based approach. Results Compared with healthy controls, children with ADHD showed deceased FA in ADHD group that was identified in bilateral frontal corona radiata, internal capsule, cerebellar white matter, corpus callosum and right cingulum. Conclusion ADHD is associated with both functional and structural deficits in brain development.Diffusion tensor imaging provides complementary neuropathological information underlying ADHD.
