Contrast-enhanced ultrasoend for ulceration plaque: diagnostic performance and interobserver agreement

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the value of diagnosis of ulceration plaque by contrast enhanced ultrasonograpy.Methods98 carotid plaques were studied by colour Doppler ultrasonography (CDUS) contrast enhanced ultrasonograpy (CEUS).The morphology of carotid plaque was categorized according to references.The differences of diagnosis of ulceration plaque by a resident radiologist and a staff radiologist using CDUS and CEUS were compared.Results The sensitivity of diagnosis of ulceration plaque by both a resident radiologist and a staff radiologist was low (30.00% and 35.00%, respectively) using CDUS, however, the sensitivity of diagnosis of ulceration plaque by both a resident radiologist and a staff radiologist was higher (both 85.00%) using CEUS and the agreement of CEUS to CT was good (κ=0.9002).In addition, there were no differences in diagnosis of ulceration plaque by both a resident radiologist and a staff radiologist.Conclusion There is a good accuracy in diagnosis of ulceration plaque by CEUS.
