Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between the MRI findings and clinical symptoms of Children hypothalamic hamartoma. Methods Clinical features and image characteristic of 30 cases(18 males and 12 females)with hypothalamic hamar-toma confirmed by surgically and pathologically were analyzed retrospectively .All patients were examined with sagittal T 1 WI and T2WI and, also T1WI coronal, sagittal and coronal T1WI enhancement scan. Results 18 cases, which were wide basal nodes, were located between pituitary stalk and the mamillary body appeared as the circular or elliptic shape .Compared to grey matter , the lesions showed isointensity on T 1 weighted imaging , and slight hyperintensity on T 2 weighted imaging , On contrast MR scan , there was no enhancement in all cases .4 cases of narrow basal node were located at the tuber cinereum appeared as quasi -circular shape, showed isointensity on T1WI, similar to cerebral gray matter signal, and hyperintensity on T2 weighted imaging. On con-trast MR scan, there was no enhancement in these cases .8 cases showed pedicle -like briquette, which were similar to cerebral gray matter signal .The clinical manifestations of 15 cases appeared as central precocious puberty and 18 cases as giggle like epi-lepsy.Conclusion The clinical symptoms are predicted by the shape and size .Hhypothalamic hamartomas may be either basal node or pedunculated .Pedunculated lesions are more commonly associated with central precocious puberty , whereas , basal node lesions are more commonly associated with giggle like epilepsy .
