Abstract:Objective To retrospectively investigate the CT and MRI manifestations of giant cell reparative granuloma ( GCRG) of the temporal bone and to review the literature , so as to enhance our understanding to this disease .Methods Five patients with pathology confirmed temporal bone GCRG were enrolled in this retrospective study .Among thone , 2 subjects under-went both CT and MRI examinations , 2 underwent merely CT , and 1 underwent merely MRI .All the images were revealed to ana-lyze the attenuation , signal intensity , growth pattern , bone destruction , enhancement feature , and other imaging manifestations . Results At CT, temporal bone GCRG manifested as soft tissue attenuation with a expansile growth pattern (5 cases) and exten-sive osteolytic bone destruction (5 cases).Periphery sand like boned ensity (3 cases) and osteosclerosis of the adjacent bone (1 case) can also be demonstrated in part of cases .At MRI masses demonstrated low and iso-signal intensity on T1WI, and hetero-geneous low and high signal intensity on T2WI (5 cases). The central hyper-intensity on T2WI was associated with cystic change, while surrounding hypo-intensity may corresponded to hemosiderin deposit .After contrast injection , GCRG showed moderate het-erogeneous enhancement .Conclusion A soft tissue attenuation with a expansile growth pattern and extensive osteolytic bone de-struction at CT suggests the diagnosis of temporal bone GCRG .At MRI, masses demonstrate low and iso-signalintensity on T 1 WI, and heterogeneous low and high signal intensity on T 2 WI.
