Abstract:Objective To discuss the diagnostic accuracy and MSCT features of the parotid gland in Sj ?gren’ s syndrome ( SS) patients. Methods MSCT scans were performed in 54 patients, including 38 patients confirmed SS and 22 symptomatic controls without SS .The CT findings of heterogeneity , abnormal diffuse fat tissue deposition , diffuse punctate calcification , swelling or at-rophy , nodularity or cystic changes of the parotid gland were analyzed by two independent blinded readers .Diagnostic performance and receiver operating characteristics curves were calculated .Results On CT imaging of parotid glands , of 38 SS cases, 38 (100%) cases displayed heterogeneity , 36(94.7%) caes displayed abnormal diffuse fat tissue deposition , 10 cases (26.3%) displayed diffuse punctate calcification ( sensitivity;specificity 100%) , 11 cases demonstrated the parotid gland swelling and 18 cases demonstrated atrophy .ROC showed SD and abnormal diffuse fat tissue deposition had higher diagnostic effect .The areas un-der the receiver operating characteristics curves of SD and abnormal diffuse fat tissue deposition were 0.970( P =0.000) and 0.945 ( P =0.000).When SD was 15.09, the sensitivity and specificity were 94.7%and 100%;and abnormal diffuse fat tis-sue deposition was stage I , the the sensitivity and specificity were 94.7%and 96.2%.Conclusion Parotid CT is accurate and reliable in the diagnosis of Sj?gren’s syndrome.Heterogeneity, abnormal diffuse fat tissue deposition ,and diffuse punctate calcifi-cation are specific for Sj?gren’ s syndrome .
