Evaluation of the surgical results of clipping of the left auricle with the image of the left atrium from double source spiral CT

Abstract：Objective To discuss the application of evaluation to the surgical resultsof clipping of left auricle using the image of the left atrium from double source spiral CT.Methods There were 18 cases of turn-on the chest and extracardiac clipping of left auricle which included 10 men and 8 women with 32~73 years old, the average age was (57.9 ±11.5) years old.Surgical effects were evaluated by use of images of the left atrium from double source spiral CT 3 months after operation.Indexes of surgical effect of clipping of the left auricle, such as shape of the left auricle clip, the condition of the closed left auricle, presence or ab-sence of residual the left auricle diverticulum, the maximum depth of the stump of the left auricle, and presence or absence of complications were evaluated by use of transverse images, VR and MPR.Results Examinations were completed successfully in 18 cases.The left atrium, adjacent anatomy as well as the left auricle clips displayed clearly.The two sides of the left auricle clip closed fitting without break, separation or shift.The left auricle closed completely without contrast agents leak and the left auricle diverticular.The left auricle in all cases atrophied at different levels.The average o maximum depth of the stump of the left auri-cle was (2.14 ±3.24) mm, which was smaller obviously than 10 mm of the technically demanding of clipping.There were no op-erational thickness, distortion, and hematomas on walls of the left atrium in close proximity with the left auricle clips.There were no compression or stenosis in adjacent anatomy such as circumflex branch of left coronary artery and the left lower pulmonary arter-ies.Conclusion The image of the left atrium from double source spiral CT can display intuitively the shape and position of clip after extracardiac clipping of left auricle, observe easily the condition of closing of the left auricle clip, judge presence or absence of the left auricle diverticular, measure accurately the maximum depth of the stump of the left auricle, and know presence or ab-sence of surgical injuries.In a word, the image of the left atrium from double source spiral CT could be considered as effective means of comprehensive evaluation of the treatment effect of extracardiac clipping of left auricle.
