Abstract:Objective To investigate diagnostic effectiveness of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration ( US-FNA) for the sonographic features of thyroid nodules like calcification. Methods A retrospective analysis of the clinical patients of 887 thyroid nodules from 2012 to 2014 was conducted.According to the calcifications, the nodules were divided into group N( no calcifica-tion), group Mi(Microcalcification), group Ma(Macrocalcification).According to the Bethesda System ,>grade IV was the malignant cytologic criteria for diagnosis of thyroid nodules. Then it compared with surgical pathological results or clinical follow-up results. At the same, receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the diagnosis of calcification between groups. Results 1 ) In group N, the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were 90.0%, 98.1%, 93.6%, 96.3%, 94.8%, in group Mi, those were 93.5%, 95.5%, 93.0%, 95.1%, 94.0%, and in group Ma those were 96.6%, 98.6%, 96.8%, 96.6%, 98.6%.The three groups also showed no significant difference ( P >0.05);2) AUC of group N, Mi, Ma were 0.94, 0.95, 0.98.The accuracy of each group was high, but, there was no differ-ence among the groups on the diagnostic value. Conclusion Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration is not limited to the calcifi-cation of thyroid nodules, but has high diagnostic value.
