Abstract:Objective To investigate the CT and MR features of AIDS associated encephalitis and the differences in the sensi-tivity and consistency of the two methods in diagnosis. Methods The imaging data of 31 cases of AIDS associated encephalitis in our hospital during the past 3 years were analyzed retrospectively. All patients underwent helical CT plain scan and MR plain scan, of whom 5 patients at the same time were performed MR plus enhanced scan.Comparison of displaying ability was comdoct-ed between two methods of the signs of the AIDS associated encephalitis. Results In 31 cases of AIDS associated encephalitis, on CT images, 8 cases of simple brain atrophy were shown, and 2 cases of simple myelinopathy were shown, cerebral atrophy complicated with myelinopathy was 21 cases; On MR images, 2 cases of simple brain atrophy were shown, and 2 cases of simple myelinopathy were shown, brain atrophy complicated with myelinopathy was 27 cases. Conclusion There was no significant difference between CT and MR in the brain atrophy. However, the sensitivity of MR was better than that of CT in myelinopathy. There were moderate agreement between CT and MR.
