Characteristic analysis of MR images in Wallerian degeneration of central nervous system

Abstract：Objective To analyze the MRI imaging characteristics of various causes of pyramidal tract wallerian degeneration in order to improve the level of image practitioner in the diagnosis of this disease.Methods We analyzed 34 cases of MRI ima-ging characteristics of wallerian degeneration and summaryied statistic analysis results.Results On the basis of primary lesion, the direction of the pyramidal tract distribution was visible;secondary lesions were found along the Pyramidal tract besides the pri-mary lesions.MRI manifestation of long T1 and long T2 signals, FLAIR was slightly high signal, DWI had high signal on the early stage, DWI had equisignal on the middle-late stage; Late stage of degeneration was shown with brain atrophy of lateral cerebral peduncle and pons.Conclusion Multiple primary disease of CNS can result in Wallerian degeneration, image practitioner com-bining with the characteristics of Wallerian degeneration of lesions and MRI imaging characteristics can improve the diagnostic lev-el of the disease.
