Abstract:Objective To determine the thickness of carotid artery adventitia in patients with metabolic syndrome by high fre -quency ultrasound and to discuss the relationship between adventitial thickness and intmia media thickness .Methods 96 cases with metabolic syndromes and 62 health personnel in our hospital were selected from Jun .2014 to Jan.2015 .According to wheth-er the patient had plaque , 96 cases were divided into group A , ( 45 cases with plaque ) and ( group B 51 patients with no plaque), 62 health personnels were group C .Their AT and IMT were obtained by high frequency ultrasound .Results Group A and group B in the average IMT and AT were significantly higher in group C ( P <0.05), the average AT in group A were signif-icantly higher in group B and group C ( P <0.05), there was no significant difference in average AT in group B and group C ( P >0.05).There was a certain relationship between three groups AT and IMT ( r =0.599, P <0.001;r =0.333, P =0.005;r =0.351, P =0.004).Conclusion Patients with metabolic syndrome in the average IMT and AT were significantly higher than health personnel , the average AT in group A was significantly higher in group B and group C .It shows that adventitia carotid artery is an important part of the vascular remodeling .
