The CT imaging analysis of parotid basal cell

Abstract：Objective To review CT imaging features of basal cell tumor in parotid gland and to explore its diagnostic value . Methods The clinical materials and image findings of 8 cases of parotid basal cell tumor , which were proved by pahtology , were retrosoectively studied .Results Each of the 9 patients had only 1 tumor.All the lesions were located in the superficial lobe .All cases appeared as round and were well circumscribed with smooth contours .All cases were less than 2 cm in diameter .CT scan showed the true nature of tumors was similar to muscle density with CT value about 37~53 HU.At enhanced scanning phase , most tumors showed a strong enhancement , the arterial phase of enhanced amplitude was closed to the venous .Only 1 case showed thin-walled annular longitudinal enhancement .3 cases showed homogeneous enhancement , and 5 cases showed inhomogeneous en-hancement with occuring cystic change .Cystic change range in 1 case exceeded 60%, and 1 case was seen in the slit shaped low density area .Immunohistochemistry showed tumor epithelial cell markes were all positive .Conclusion The parotid basal cell ad-enoma presents certain CT features .Combining age with onset and clinical data can improve the preoperative diagnostic accuracy . However , the definite diagnosis should be depended on the histopathological and immunohistochemical results .
