Abstract:Objective To investigate the value of conventional MRI and susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) in the di‐agnosis of deep cerebral venous thrombosis (DCVT ) .Methods Radiographic findings were evaluated retrospectively in 8 patients with the DCVT proved by MR ,DSA .All the patients were scanned with T1 WI ,T2 WI ,FLAIR ,SWI and MRV . 8 patients with DCVT enrolled in this study ,including 6 acute DCVT ,2 subacute cases .Results 4 (4/6) of acute cases showed unclear on T1 WI ,T2 WI ,FLAIR ,but showed a typical hypointense on SWI .2 (2/6) of acute cases showed iso‐hyperintens on T1 WI ,hypointense on T2 WI ,FLAIR ,and on SWI .2 subacute cases showed hyperintense on T1 WI , T2 WI ,FLAIR ,and showed hyperintense or hypointense on SWI .7(7/8) patients with venous infarction ,including six cases of hemorrhagic venous infarction in basal ganglia or thalamus .SWI showed more hemorrhage than conventional MR sequences .Dilated veins in drainage area were demonstrated by SWI .Conclusion SWI is very sensitive and useful in de‐tecting the DCVT and provides information about the pathological evolution .
