Abstract:Objective We have provided a reliable differential diagnosis for the striatonigral degeneration (SND) and Parkinson disease (PD) that are easy to confuse disease in clinical diagnosis by MRI measurement .Methods The clinical diagnosis for the SND of 9 cases ,PD of 17 cases and 17 normal cases of conventional magnetic resonance imaging data are retrospectively analyzed .Putamen area have been measured by the method of measuring the M RI .Results Putamen area is statistically significant ( P﹤0 .05) to be found compared with PD group and control group .But the PD group and con‐trol group have no statistically significant difference in the putamen area .The main MRI findings of SND are hyperintense rim of putamen and putaminal atrophy .The cross sign of the T2 WI is found in the few SND patiens .The cerebellar atro‐phy ,atrophy of middle cerebellar peduncles ,medulla oblongata atrophy and pontine atrophy are found in the few SND pa‐tiens .Conclusion M RI measurements of the putamen area helps in the differential diagnosis of SND and PD .
