Abstract:Objective To investigate whether epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness is correlated with ascending aor‐tic diameter (AAD) and EAT thickness is an independent risk factor for ascending aortic dilatation .Methods There were total 90 patients ,inclnding 45 of normal ascending aortic diameter (NAD) group and 45 of dilated ascending aortic(DAA) group .All patients were evaluated by transthoracic echocardiography with measurement of EAT thickness and AAD .Re‐sults EAT thickness was significantly higher in DAA group (5 .6 ± 0 .9) mm compared to NAD group (4 .5 ± 0 .6) mm . There was strong correlation between EAT thickness and ascending aortic diameter ( r =0 .512 ,P <0 .01) .In multiple linear regression analysis ,EAT thickness and age were independently correlated to ascending aortic dilatation .Conclusion EAT thickness is an independent risk factor for ascending aortic dilatation .
