Abstract:Objective To evaluate the value of multivoxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy in diagnosing hippocampal sclerosis early .Methods 28 patients were performed routine MRI and multivoxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy at bi‐lateral hippocampal areas .We measured N‐acetylaspartate acid (NAA) ,choline‐containing compounds (Cho) and Creatine (Cr) signal intensity in bilateral hippocampal areas .The distribution of metabolites in bilateral hippocampal areas would be analyzed .Results ① The diagnosis by the routine MR images in four cases was unilateral hippocampal atrophy and it was a consensus ,but four cases were inconsistency in the orientation of the disease side ,twenty cases were consider no mor‐phological changes in the hippocampus ; ② NAA ,the ratios of NAA / Cho ,NAA/Cr ,and NAA / (Cr + Cho) were de‐creased on ipsilateral side .Conclusion MRS is sensitive to the diagnosis of neuron abnormality and coincident well with the pathological results .It can provide useful information for presurgical diagnosis of hippocampal sclerosis .
