CT imaging features of cardiac metastases

Abstract:Objective To assess CT imaging features of cardiac metastases ,and help to early diagnosis and management . Methods This retrospective study included 42 patients .CT images were reviewed for the presence of pericardial thicken-ing ,the pattern of pericardial thickening ,and the presence of pleural effusion and masses within the cardiac chambers or myocardium .Results Of these 42 patients with cardiac metastasis ,36 cases (85 .7% ) involved the pericardium ,7 cases (16 .6% ) involved the myocardium ,12 cases (28 .5% ) could find masses within the cardiac chambers .Conclusion Most frequent CT features of cardiac metastases include pericardial effusion ,mediastinal lymph node enlargement ,and pericardi-al thickening ,enhancement ,and masses within the cardiac chambers or myocardium .CT is helpful for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac metastases .Histological examination is necessary for the final diagnosis .
