MRI and clinical diagnosis of idiopathic spinal epidural lipomatosis

Abstract:Objective:To investigate MRI and clinical manifestations of symptomatic spinal epidural lipomatosis. Methods:Col-lecting 12 cases of symptomatic spinal epidural lipomatosis and retrcospectively analyzing the preoperative revealing in MR1 andother imaging modalities. Results: MRI features of symptomatic spinal epidural lipomatosis show: (1)Plethora of fat deposits atthe backside of epidura mater, (2)The subsided fat is in shapes of continuous diamond cord, (3)Backside of dural cyst depressed,(4)Spinal cord depressed. x- ray examination reveals normally. Part of spinal cord enhancement shows no smooth flow. CT re-veals plethora fat subsided but can not show that appearance such as spinal cord depression. Conclusion: The location, shape, signaland the effect to the nearby tissues in MRI of the lesion,symptomatic spinal epidural lipomatosis have its own rules and MRI ex-amination is one of the better means in providing information for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
