Abstract:Objective To investigate bacterial culture and drug susceptibility analysis in infants with low respir-atory tract infection in order to guide rational drug use. Methods 819 infants with low respiratory tract infection from one month to three year old were included during Feb. 2012 to Apr. 2014. The results of bacterial culture and drug susceptibility were collected. Results 107 pathogens were isolated with 58 gram - negative bacterial(54. 2% ),37 gram - postive bacteria(34. 6% )and 12 fungus(11. 2% ). Most of the strains of bacteria were highly resistant to peni-cillin. The drug resistance rates of escherichia coli and klebsiella pneumoniae to cefuroxime, ceftazidime and ceftriax-one were 30% to 50% ,while they were highly resistant to imipenem and meropenem. Drug sensitive rates of staphylo-coccus epidermidis, staphylococcus aureus and streptococcus pneumoniae to vancomycin were 100% without drug re-sistant strain. Conclusion The main bacteria causing low respiratory tract infection in infants are gram - negative bacteria, especially escherichia coli and klebsiella pneumoniae. Results of drug susceptibility test should be combined to guide rational drug use and reduce drug resistant strain.
