Abstract:Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of capsule endoscopy in medical examination of a-symptomatic population. Methods From June 2009 to May 2014,246 individuals were randomized divided into study group(A)and control group(B and C)according to chronological order. 85 individuals in group A received intramus-cular injection of 10 mg metoclopramide after taking capsule. 93 individuals in group B were taken capsule endoscopy according to general requirements. 68 individuals in group C were taken gastroscopy and colonoscopy just after capsule endoscopy. Results There were no significant difference in average time of whole small intestine operation among the three groups(P ﹥ 0. 05). The average time of gastric emptying in group A was significantly shorter than that in group B and group C(P < 0. 05),but there was no significant difference in detection rate of small bowel diseases among three groups(P ﹥ 0. 05). The detection rate in group A was 23. 53%(20 / 85),25. 81%(24 / 93)in group B and 41. 18%(28 / 68)in group C. The detection rate in group C was significantly higher than that in group A and group B(P <0. 05). Conclusion Capsule endoscopy is effective and safe in medical examination for asymptomatic population, while additional gastroscopy and colonoscopy can increase the detection rate of gastrointestinal diseases.
