Abstract:Objective To comprehensively analyze the research findings in the fields of epidemiology, biology, and immunologybetween periodontitis and lung cancer, with the aim of revealing the potential link between periodontitis and lung cancer and providing a scientific basis for prevention and treatment strategies. Methods The association between periodontitis and lung cancer risk, the role of the oral microbiome in lung cancer, and the possible impact of periodontitis on lung cancer progression were explored through a review of relevant studies. Results Patients with periodontitis have a higher risk of lung cancer, and the oral microbiome is closely related to the occurrence of lung cancer.Periodontal bacteria may affect the development of lung cancer through various mechanisms, including promoting abnormal expression of pulmonary proteins and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines by immune cells. Conclusion The relationship between periodontitis and lung cancer needs to be studied in depth, and the existing evidence suggests that periodontitis may be a risk factor for lung cancer. This review highlights the potential importance of periodontitis in the prevention and treatment of lung cancer and provides new insights for the prevention and treatment of periodontitis and lung cancer.
