Abstract:Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is a technique that uses a photosensitizer to interact with oxygen to produce cytotoxic reactive oxygen species(ROS),which leads to apoptosis or bacterial death of target cells.Currently,PDT has been widely used in the treatment of oral diseases. In the treatment of endodontics diseases,PDT can prevent the occurrence of caries, slow down the development of caries,be used for socket disinfection to prevent the generation of secondary caries, efficient root canal disinfection, promote periapical tissue healing, remove tooth coloring for tooth bleaching, etc. This article summarizes the principles and elements of PDT,as well as the current research and application in the treatment of endodontics diseases, analyzes the shortcomings of the current research, and puts forward the prospects for the future, with a view to providing new ideas for endodontics-related research.
