Abstract:AIM:To explore the relationship between caries and oral health behaviors of family members and individuals in infants aged 0-2 years with high risk of caries, and to provide theoretical basis for accurate prevention of infant caries.METHODS:148 pairs of newborn mothers and children with high risk of caries(infants≤2 months old)were selected, and oral health education and targeted treatment suggestions were given to the mothers.Follow-up records of mother and child dietary hygiene behavior and caries situation, and longitudinal observation was carried out for 2 years. The correlation between mother's oral condition, infant's food hygiene, regular examination and other factors and infant's caries was statistically analyzed.RESULTS:Chi-square test showed that factors such as night feeding over 1 year old, frequency of sugary diet, bad feeding habits, visible plaque, parental help to brush teeth, age of starting brushing teeth, oral cleaning before going to bed, frequency of regular oral examinations, brushing times, duration of mother's caries, bleeding from mother's brushing, and disagreement between mother's management of infant caries with family were related to infant caries(P<0.05).Logistic multivariate analysis showed that the duration of maternal caries, night feeding over 1 year old, frequency of regular oral examination, visible plaque, and frequency of sugary diet were the main risk factors for infant caries(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The key to prevention of infant caries lies in parents. From the mother's pregnancy, health education and health guidance should be carried out on a family-based basis, and family members'awareness and attention to infant caries can be effectively controlled.
