Abstract:Alzheimer's disease(AD)is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of neurons and synapses, leading to cognitive function, and eventually dementia.Although the etiology of AD remains incompletely understood, increasing evidence highlights the potential involvement of microbial factors. The oral cavity,as one of the largest microecosystems in the human body, harbors a variety of fungi that may play a role in AD pathogenesis.Common oral fungi such as Candida albicans,Malassezia,Cladosporium,Alternaria and Aspergillus have been suggested to promote or inhibit the progression of AD through direct or indirect pathways. This study investigates the relationship between oral fungal colonization and AD,aiming to the potential roles these microorganisms play in the disease process. These findings suggest that antifungal therapies or the application of specific fungal metabolites may offer novel strategies for AD prevention or treatment.
